Artist Statement

I am an abstract artist because I truly believe that art does not have to represent external reality. Rather, it seeks to achieve reality through shapes, forms, colors, and textures. My art, in particular, uses color and shape to represent emotions, nature, and spirituality.

The Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi, or Imperfect Beauty — that is: Nothing Lasts; Nothing is Finished; Nothing is Perfect — has always been a guiding principle in my work. Bold colors and perfectly-imperfect shapes encourage the viewer to see the world as more dynamic, beautiful, and connected than initial perceptions allow. Hopefully, my art challenges you to form and reform a lifelong relationship to its essence.
